The Glorious Court Sq Fountain

There's a debate about the fountain in front of the Courthouse and whether or not it should stay or taken out to update the 'park' to make it more convenient for children and others to have an area to play, lounge, etc.
While we, at Art of the Barber, do love the idea of bringing a lush green space to the area, it seems counterintuitive to get rid of the beautiful fountain that is a part of our history.

The original building was built in 1874, it was remodeled in 1904 and again throughout the 2000's. The courthouse was considered one of the most important buildings in Queens County. It's quite beautiful, but easy to miss as we hurry down Jackson Avenue.

The renovation project of Court Square Park has begun, and it has come to light that there are plans to remove the existing beautiful water fountain.
Although a public hearing was held about these plans nearly six years ago, it seems the news has taken many by surprise, as noted in another discussion.
The fountain has long been a beloved feature of the neighborhood (see the photo from 1934) enhancing the character of the historic Courthouse and the surrounding park.
Losing it in favor of sprinklers and a bit more grassy area, as outlined in the approved plan, would be a misstep. There has been a suggestion in another thread to rally together, voice our concerns, and organize a meeting…
